Caregiver confirming a scheduled trip with a young adult with autism before boarding

About PEMA

Rides families can count on.

PEMA Transportation LLC is a contracted MART vendor delivering MassHealth and Human Service Transportation trips to medical appointments and day programs throughout Worcester County & greater Massachusetts — with monitors when needed, car seats when required, and drivers who are state safety trained with thorough background checks.

Our story

Transportation should never be the reason care is delayed.

For those who need monitoring while riding, PEMA provides a dedicated monitor — and a car seat on board when needed — so each rider arrives supported and secured at the appointment or day program.

As a contracted MART vendor, we focus on MassHealth and Human Service Transportation assignments — not open public rides on the same vehicles. Every driver is state safety driving trained and thoroughly background-checked before they meet a rider. When a monitor is assigned, they pick riders up at the door and walk them into the program at drop-off. Our goal is simple: show up on time, complete every handoff safely, and keep communication clear for families and care partners.

MART vendor

Contracted with MART.

Contracted MART vendor for MassHealth / Human Service Transportation trips

MART (Montachusett Regional Transit Authority), at mrta.us, is one of two Massachusetts Regional Transit Authorities contracted by EOHHS as a Human Service Transportation broker — coordinating MassHealth (PT-1), DDS, DMH, DPH, MRC, and MCB rides across most of the Commonwealth, including Worcester County. PEMA is a contracted MART vendor that completes assigned trips to appointments and day programs — with ride monitors when needed, car seats when required, and door-to-program care. We focus on these contracted MassHealth and agency services; we do not advertise open public rides on the same vehicles used for HST work.

Driver standards

Trained for the road. Cleared for the ride.

All PEMA drivers complete state safety driving training and thorough background checks before they are assigned to riders.

State safety driving trained

Every PEMA driver completes state safety driving training before they are assigned to medical or day-program trips.

Thorough background checks

Screening is completed before a driver meets a rider — trust starts before the first pickup window.

Cleared for the care ride

Training and screening are the baseline for every escorted appointment and day-program route.

How we care

Great driving. Real care.

On contracted MassHealth and Human Service Transportation trips, how we arrive and hand off matters as much as the miles.

On time, without the rush

Pickup windows are a commitment. Drivers aim to arrive calm and early so riders are never hurried into the vehicle.

Dignity at every handoff

We greet riders by name, ask before assisting, and keep the cabin quiet and respectful — including for young adults with autism or disabilities.

Through the door, not just to the curb

When a trip includes a monitor or escorted handoff, PEMA walks riders into the appointment or day program so care continues past the parking lot.

Trained for the care ride

State safety driving training and thorough background checks come before any rider assignment on our contracted MassHealth and HST work.

What guides us

Values that show up on every route.

Punctuality, safety, and respect are not slogans here — they are how rides are planned and delivered.

Punctuality

Appointments and day programs run on a clock. Our dispatch and drivers treat every pickup window as a commitment.

Dignity

Every rider deserves patience, respect, and the right support — including a PEMA monitor for those who need monitoring while riding.

Safety

All PEMA drivers are state safety driving trained and complete thorough background checks before they are assigned to riders.

Clarity

Families and facilities get straightforward communication — who is coming, whether a monitor is assigned, and when.

Consistency

Recurring riders and day-program partners should not have to rebuild trust every morning.

Operations

Modern dispatch for a local fleet.

Evening schedules and driver coordination are supported by AssignRide, so PEMA can keep rider assignments clear when demand is highest.

That means fewer handoff mistakes, better visibility for drivers and monitors, and a more reliable experience for the people who depend on us to reach appointments, therapy, and day programs.
